In Excel 2007, you activate add ins by clicking on the office button and then clicking on the Excel Options box at the bottom of the menu. You may need to try different initial guesses. The solver addin must be activated before it can be used within Excel.

Note that the fit usually depends on the value of the initial guess.

It can solve much larger problems, and typically does so faster than Solver. A new pop-up will appear asking if you want to keep the new values or revert to your original values. The program will alter your initial values to fit the data.

The software is written by Professor Zhu in an effort to minimize the possibility of mis-presentation of DEA models during coding. The software is developed based upon Professor Zhus years of DEA research and teaching experience.

Solver will find the value(s) of the parameter(s) that minimize the difference between the observed and predicted data. This uses the free COIN-OR CBC solver, and can solve linear and integer problems (but not non-linear models). solver to vary the values for A, C and k to minimize the sum of chi squared. DEAFrontier TM developed by Professor Joe Zhu is a Microsoft® Excel Add-In for solving Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models. For more complex models additional parameters can be added, separated by commas.Į) Select GRG Nonlinear (other options are available) In this case there is only one parameter (Kd) which is cell $D$1.

To set the first constraint (that the total production capacity is 200 units) enter B6 as the Cell Reference, choose equal ( ) from the drop-down list of operators, and enter 200 as the Constraint value. For example, if you are fitting binding data, you would calculate Y=/(Kd+) (column E), where Kd is contained in a cell (D1)Ĭ) You will need to calculate the absolute values of the difference between the observed and predicted data for each data point (column F).ĭ) You will need to sum the differences (cell F11), solver will vary the parameter(s) of the model to minimize the sum of the differences.Ī) You open solver by clicking on the "Data" tab at the top of the Excel screen and then selecting "Solver" on the far right.ī) You need to Set the Objective to the cell that contains the sum of the residuals, $F$11 in this example.Ĭ) You need to tell solver what parameters to change by entering them into the "By Changing Variable Cells:". Excel displays the Add Constraint dialog box: This dialog box has three parts: a Cell Reference, an operator, and a Constraint value. You will have to turn on Solver in your version of Excel:Ī) Select the file tab, and click on options.ī) Select Add-ins, and then under "Manage:" select Excell Add-ins, and click on "Go."Ī) You will need one column of observed data (Column D)ī) You will need one column of predicted data, calculated using parameters that are contained in one or more cells.
